If the disease is detected at an early stage, proton therapy for prostate cancer increases the chance of cure, minimizes the risk of side effects that may occur with other treatment modalities, and allows the current quality of life to be maintained to the maximum extent possible. Our goal is that the patient can continue to live the same life after treatment that he or she was accustomed to before treatment.
We give all our patients time, attention and above all an individual approach throughout the treatment process, from the first contact, right through to the end of treatment.
Coordinators will be in contact with you from the first moment you make an appointment for a treatment consultation. They will make sure you have all the necessary materials for your initial appointment with our doctor and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. They will then help you to make all appointments for follow-ups and examinations. You can contact them at any time with any questions you may have.
At the Proton Center, we also take pride in making sure that every patient has a doctor from the initial consultation all the way to the end of treatment. We take great care to make sure that the doctor always has enough time for each patient, is able to pay attention to them, can listen to them willingly and explain how proton therapy works. Our doctors have many years of experience in radiation therapy, both in the proton radiation therapy we offer at the Proton Center and in conventional photon therapy. Our doctors are thus the only specialists in the Czech Republic who can answer patients’ questions in a very professional manner and choose the most optimal treatment for each patient.
The Proton Centre applies the most advanced procedures for treating cancer patients, including a method of proton therapy that is precise and gentle, with a minimum of unwanted side effects. Its innovative methods, excellent results and experienced specialists make it one of the most advanced centres. The Proton Centre uses the Pencil Beam Scanning or PBS method, which refers to the precise distribution of the proton beam dose. In this method of irradiation, a thin (pencil) beam is directed to the appropriate point on the target volume using a magnetic field. By highly precise control of the changes in this magnetic field, a gradual irradiation of the entire tumour bed is achieved.
The Proton Centre also has diagnostic equipment, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT). The Proton Centre aims to provide quality cancer patient care, and this is matched by carefully set treatments, as well as operational processes according to international standards.
The essence of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) is close cooperation of physicians representing different specialties – radiologist, radiation oncologist, clinical oncologist, surgeon, urologist, etc. Within the MDT indication seminars, the possibility of participation of all specialists in indication, treatment, evaluation of treatment results, patient monitoring (registry management) is set.
In addition to representatives of each specialty, the MDT has a supervisor, a lead physician responsible for a specific diagnosis and a client coordinator who can be contacted by any physician at any time.
On the basis of mutual cooperation within the National Cancer Centre, and also on the basis of cooperation with cancer centres in the Czech Republic and abroad, proton therapy is made available to all cancer patients as part of comprehensive nationwide cancer care. The goal of cancer treatment, which is to increase the patient’s chances of correct and timely treatment using all available treatment modalities, is supported.
